What is "AR”

Augmented Reality (AR) is one of the most popular and challenging areas in computer vision research. This technology allows you to supplement the real world with digital content, such as virtual 3D objects.

A key feature of augmented reality compared to other imaging tools is that virtual objects move and rotate in 3D coordinates rather than 2D image coordinates.

Unlike virtual reality (VR), which tries to recreate and replace the real environment with a 100% virtual one, augmented reality is the enrichment of the image of the real world with computer images and digital information. It aims to change the real experience by putting video, infographics, images, sound and other details in front of you.

How to create marker-based AR content

To create your own augmented reality experience, you will need:

  1. Static image or so-called “trigger” (AR marker)

<aside> 💡 AR trigger or AR marker is an image or object that can be recognized by an augmented reality-enabled mobile application and is used to trigger augmented reality features.

  1. Digital content such as a video or 3D object to be placed on top of the trigger (selected image)
  2. Software for combining two pieces of content such as 📲 Web-AR Studio Editor
  3. Mobile device with a compatible app to scan the trigger and extract AR content.
